ARRA 2009 Funding
In 2009,
EPA distributed funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act)
as grants to states and Puerto Rico to capitalize their State Revolving Fund (SRF) programs, from which assistance was provided to finance eligible high priority water infrastructure projects. The states set priorities based on public health and environmental factors, in addition to readiness to proceed to construction, and identify which projects would receive funding. States provided at least 20% of their grants for green projects, including green infrastructure, ener
gy or water efficiency, and environmentally innovative activities.
Pennsylvania received an estimated $16 billion from the federal government. The
Recovery.pa.gov
website provides first-hand how and where that money was used to promote economic recovery in the commonwealth.
