PENNVEST receives federal funding through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF). The funding through this partnership provides low-cost financing to communities for a wide range of water quality infrastructure projects including municipal wastewater facilities, nonpoint source pollution control, decentralized wastewater treatment systems, stormwater runoff mitigation, green infrastructure, estuary protection, and water reuse.
In addition, PENNVEST funding is also acquired through the EPA's Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) which is dedicated to protecting America's public health. This program finances the construction and rehabilitation of critical drinking water infrastructure, along with public health-focused programs and activities across our nation.
The EPA recognizes CWSRF projects each year through the
George F. Ames Performance and Innovation in the SRF Creating Environmental Success Program (PISCES). Projects funded through the DWSRF are recognized through the
Aquarius Recognition Program. The following Pennsylvania water-quality improvement projects, financed through PENNVEST, have been recognized as some of the nation's most innovative by the PISCES and Aquarius programs:
