Born and raised in the City of Philadelphia. In 1958 graduated from Temple University with a Certificate in Accounting.
Employed as a Certified Public Accountant from 1958 through 1970 as a Manager in Public Accounting for the firm of Touche Ross, now known as Deloitte Touche. In 1970 joined A. Pomerantz and Company, a leading distributor of commercial office furniture and office products, as Corporate Controller. Progressed to President and Owner ofPomerantz in 1983. In 1988 Pomerantz was sold to a major national conglomerate, the HMK Group.
In 1992 appointed by Mayor Edward Rendell to the position of Procurement Commissioner for the City of Philadelphia.
In 2000 reappointed by Mayor John F; Street to same position. In January 2002 retired from City Government
Married, has three sons and seven grandchildren - four girls and three boys.
